For the final meeting of term we will look at a piece by Hayden White on ‘narrativity’ alongside an essay by Foucault on Nietzsche, History and Genealogy. Both pieces relate and refer to other themes and thinkers we have looked at so far and I hope they will provide a suitable conclusion to this term.
As usual, Friday 23rd March, 5pm Birkbeck College, 261. Tea served.

A slightly marginal note:
In today’s session, the question came up: could the Holocaust be represented through comedy, or even as comedy? I knew it rang a bell with something, but couldn’t remember what. Zizek has an essay on three 1990s films which he says do exactly this. http://www.arthist.lu.se/discontinuities/texts/zizek.htm

On a further note, there is a nice exchange regarding Hayden White’s historiography in _History & Theory_ for anyone who’s still interested in following the finer philosophical and political implications of his ‘anti-realism’.
